Call for Youth Artwork

Theme: Love Your History // Are you inspired by historic landmarks that make Columbus a special place to live? We have an art assignment for you! Create a one-of-a-kind work of art that visually represents what “Love Your History” means to you and win a chance to exhibit your work at The Inn at Irwin Gardens. Students selected to exhibit work will be entered into an art contest with cash awards.


For inspiration // Students may visit The Inn at Irwin Gardens during the months of November and December, Tuesdays 3:00–5:00 pm or Saturdays 11:00 am–2:00 pm. To make an appointment, call The Inn at 812-376-3663. To learn more about the history of The Inn, visit www.irwingardens.com. Artwork does not need to include imagery of The Inn at Irwin Gardens. Students may also create works of art inspired by other important landmarks, historical figures or architectural sites in Bartholomew County.


Medium // 2-D and 3-D artwork including: painting, drawing, photography, textiles, mixed media and sculpture.


Scale // 2-D: minimum of 8” x 10”; maximum 24” x 36”. 3-D: no minimum; maximum of 4’.
Presentation // 2-D artwork must be framed and ready to hang on the wall. 3-D artwork must be freestanding or pedestal-/tabletop-ready.


Eligibility:

  • Open to Bartholomew County students ages 14–19 and/or attending high school (public, private and homeschool students all eligible).

  • Students may enter on their own or have a teacher or guardian submit their entry.

  • All entries must be the original work of the student. One entry per student.

  • Age-and school-appropriate subject matter is eligible (no pro-violence, pro-drugs, etc.). Anything deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.

Artwork Entry Timeline:

  • Mid-November 2019 // “Call for Youth Participation” announcement to BCSC high school students and homeschool students/residents in Bartholomew County.

  • January 28–31, 2020 // Artwork Submission Drop-off. Must be delivered to CAAC office, 431 Sixth Street by January 31. Artwork must include Entry Form (see below).

  • February 4–6, 2020 // Jury Review Panel to select 20 artworks for Silent Art Auction.

Other Important Info:

  • 20 artworks will be exhibited at “The Inn at Irwin Gardens: Loving History”, a fundraiser event on February 14, 2020 and available for purchase in a Silent Art Auction. Any artwork that is not purchased will be returned to the student.

  • Three artworks will be selected to receive cash awards; 1st Place: $250, 2nd Place: $100 and People’s Choice: $50.

  • Proceeds raised will benefit five local arts and cultural organizations and their youth programs. Participating organizations include: Bartholomew County Historical Society, Columbus Area Arts Council, Friends of BCPL, Friends of CIAA and Lincoln Central Neighborhood Family Center.
