Music Matters: Lives of Great Composers
When we hear our favorite pieces by famous composers, it is easy to live within the music and forget that the notes and emotions come from the real life experiences of real men and women. We explore how the adventures and misadventures of Brahms, Berlioz, Vivaldi, Mozart, and others affect their musical compositions. The Charm of Folk Instruments
This hands-on class presents the history of several folk music instruments and a demonstration of how to play each of them. Then, in a group, it’s your turn to make music of your own! Mandolin, fiddle, banjo, hammered dulcimer, Irish drum – all cherished folk instruments – are available to you.

Take this opportunity to look into the intricacies of the four families of musical instruments – how they are designed to produce their unique and identifiable sounds. What is common to all musical instruments? You find out, you hear experts demonstrating their instrument, and you get a chance to try your hand at playing the instruments. The Beat Goes On – Community Drumming
Improvisation, Middle Eastern and African drum rhythms, Taiko drumming and more – all are calling you to join this community drumming event. Learn to play comfortably regardless of your experience or skill level and feel stress disappear! Hands-on instruction is given using drums, small percussion instruments, our bodies, and our voices. Drums are provided or bring your own.
