Paradise Iron Pour and BBQ Cook-Off

Paradise Iron Pour and BBQ Cook-Off

NEW IRON POUR SCHEDULE
Due to dry conditions and high winds the schedule for the 2010 Paradise Iron Pour has been changed.
The new schedule is as follows:

Friday, Sept 24   5-9pm  BBQ Cook-Off, Live Music, Artist Exhibit
Saturday, Sept 25  12:00-3:30pm  Iron Pour
Sunday, Sept 26  12:00-3pm  Scratch Block Pick Up

The "Paradise" Iron Pour is presented by the Columbus Area Arts Council and the Columbus Museum of Art & Design and is free to the public.  Live entertainment featuring the Banister Family, Bobbie Lancaster and other local and regional musicians will perform throughout the evening.

The iron pour is a spectacular show, but once again, it offers a chance for community members who have purchased scratch blocks to participate through community workshops and create their own piece of art work.

A limited number of scratch blocks will be available starting Tuesday Sept 7 at the Arts Council for $15 each with a limit of two per family.  The blocks are made of sand that is held together with resin.  Participants can carve a design into the sand which will be cast in iron at the pour on Friday evening.  Tools and instructions will be given at workshops conducted by iron pour artists.  The workshops will be held Wednesday Sept 22 and Thursday Sept 23 from 4pm - 7pm and Friday Sept 24 Noon - 3pm.

This year's pour features a BBQ ribs and chicken cook-off.  The competition will take place in the parking lot at Mill Race Park starting at 5pm.  Organized by Rick Pennybaker, owner of Small Paradise Lounge, the cook-off will be judged by local celebrities and cash prizes will be awarded for both ribs and chicken.   Ribs, chicken and sides will be available for purchase throughout the evening.  Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.

Anyone wishing to participate in the cook-off can pick up applications at Small Paradise Lounge after 6pm or online HERE.  The entry fee is $50 and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Columbus Area Arts Council.  All applications for the cook-off are due by Monday Sept 13 by 5pm.  For questions about the cook-off, please call Rick Pennybaker at 812-391-4357.
