Youth Memorial Art Award for 2011

Deadline for Youth Memorial Art Award is April 18!

The deadline to apply for the 2011 Youth Memorial Art Award (YMAA) is Monday, April 18.  Students in grades 7-12 in Bartholomew County can submit one piece of artwork each to be judged for the award.  The winning artist will receive a $250 purchase prize.

Dr. Thomas and Mary Lu Orr established the Youth Memorial Art Award in 1974 after the untimely death of their son, Thomas Orr, Jr., to encourage area students to share their artwork with the community.  Even though Dr. Orr passed away in December of 2010, Mrs. Orr is committed to continuing this award.

All participants receive an invitation to a reception where they will receive a certificate of participation and the winning YMAA will be announced.  The presentation this year will be held in conjunction with the Columbus Area Arts Council’s Annual Meeting on May 5 at 4pm in The Commons.

The winning artwork is then presented to the Bartholomew County Public Library where the collection from past years is displayed and can be checked out by a library patron, just as one would check out a book.

Students may also pick up applications for the YMAA at Donner Center, Bartholomew County Public Library, Viewpoint Books and the Columbus Area Arts Council.

Completed artwork can be dropped off at the Arts Council no later than 4pm on the April 18.
