COLUMBUS MURAL PROJECT :: SUMMER 2004 MURAL
Growing Through the Seasons
Location: Harrison Ridge Park Handball Court, Tipton Lakes Blvd.
Artist Elizabeth Bays worked with 15 youth over a three week period to create a Japanese themed mural. Fifty cherry blossom trees grace the grounds of Harrison Ridge Park, gifts from our sister city, Miyoshi, Japan. Bays, a student of Japanese language and calligraphy, used the trees as inspiration for her work with the teens. She exposed them to Japanese character writing and landscape painting and together they arrived at a three-wall mural representing nature through the seasons.
Dates: July 24 - August 11, 2004
Sponsors and Supporters: Irwin Union Bank, Wylie Foundation, Cinergy Foundation, Northern Paint and Supply, and Porter Paints.
