THE COLUMBUS MURAL PROJECT
The arts are a viable tool for assisting with the reduction of juvenile crime, violence, and drug use. They are also an effective tool for improving communication skills, enhancing academic performance, and building self-discipline.
The COLUMBUS MURAL PROJECT was created to address many of the issues surrounding at-risk youth and it offers one pathway for positively affecting young lives. Established in 2000, the project is a partnership between the Columbus Area Arts Council, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, and the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center.
Artists worked with youth assigned to day treatment and the shelter facility of the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center to create large scale outdoor murals in the Parks system and other public settings. Information on each mural may be viewed below.
Summer 2006 - Maintenance on the murals at Lincoln Park, Donner Park, and 10th Street Bridge.
