Mayor's Arts Awards
Mayor Fred Armstrong has announced that a community committee is now accepting nominations for the 2008 Mayor’s Arts Awards. Nominations in the Community Award, Student Award, Small Business Award and Arts Educator Award categories are being accepted.
The Community Award is given to an individual or families who have made significant contributions, which encourage the growth, development and enjoyment of the arts in the community.

The Student Award is given to a high school senior who has shown outstanding potential or has made a commitment to the pursuit of artistic endeavors.

The Small Business Award, also known as the “Tabby Award” (Together in Arts and Business), is given to a local small business that has made significant contributions which encourage the growth, development and the enjoyment of the arts in Columbus.

The Arts Educator Award is given to a local professional educator who uses the arts as an educational tool.

Established in 1983, the Mayor’s Arts Awards for the community and student categories have been given to numerous outstanding artists, volunteers, patrons and students. Last year’s recipients were Howard and Carolyn Lickerman, Community Arts Award; Kristin Cazenave, Student Arts Award; Paul Walker, Arts in Education Award and the Small Business Award (TABBY) went to Bob Anderson of Stillframes Gallery.
Nomination forms for the 2008 awards are available at the Columbus Area Arts Council (417 3rd Street), City Hall and Donner Center.
The deadline for nominations is September 11 by 5:00 pm at City Hall.
The winners will be recognized at this year’s unCommon Cau$e event being held on October 25 at the Cummins hangar at the airport.
